Where has Chioma Jesus been? | What you need to know about gospel star Amaka okwuoha

Amaka popularly known as Chioma Jesus, was born in the poor district of Lagos but the absence of wealth didn’t deter her from developing her talent. Chioma’s parent are from the south-eastern Nigeria Igbo tribe, which make Chioma an Igbo woman however the first gospel song Chioma ever released was written in the Yoruba language.

Her music ministry blossomed during her days at The Scripture Union (SU) Fellowship where she served as a minor chorus leader and sang without the use of musical accomplishments or instruments. Her Pastor at the time encouraged her to develop her talent and helped in enrolling her in the College of Music. Overtime, Chioma learned English which increased her opportunities in gospel music industry as an artist.

Chioma came into the limelight after being nominated during the 2010 Delta Yadah Awards, a gospel music award which takes place annually in Asaba, Delta state. It features seasoned, anointed and professional gospel music ministers who are proudly some of Nigeria’s finest. Chioma Jesus did not win then, but eventually won at the 2011 and 2012 editions of the gospel award.
Her most popular song titled ‘Praise‘ was released in 2011 and earned her top place on the Nigerian Gospel Music Charts.

Apart from being a musician, Chioma, is a pastor in South Nigeria. Amaka Okwuoha (Chioma Jesus) is the founder of the Inheritance of Mercy Foundation in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. In an interview that was granted not too long ago, she mentioned how she used to be a trader, dealing in food stuffs. She also mentioned how she would trek to and fro the venue of the ministration for the day.

Amaka (Chioma Jesus) has collaborated with other Gospel Artistes like Samsong, Nathaniel Bassey and many others. One of such splendid output done with Nathaniel Bassey is ‘Jehovah Shammah’.

At her first time at The Experience Lagos in 2014, guests were immensely blessed and you could see worshippers getting their grooves on as she ministered. So many people were expectant of her ministration at the 10th edition of The Experience which held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan Lagos on December 4, 2015. She didn’t disappoint. Though there was a short power outage at the TBS venue for about 20 minutes, when she came on stage, the venue was electrifying again and she was the last minister to perform on the day.
Even people who do not know how to speak Igbo language were seen to be dancing excitedly in praise to God at 4 in the morning at the event which started at 7pm the day before.
She is married to Evangelist Callistus Okwuoha, also a pastor and together they are blessed with 3 children. Chioma waited for 15 years after marriage to give birth to her first child.

Chioma Jesus is scheduled to release her debut album soon. Amaka Okwuoha was named the highest paid gospel artiste for 2015 by Penparazzi group of investigative journalists in Nigeria.
